Principal Felder announced the winners of the Earth Week, "Guess the Weight of PS40's Compost and Garbage" contest.

PS40's one day average weight of GARBAGE from the cafeteria is.... 55lbs
Jacob in class 3-308 and Ryan in 2-304 both guessed EXACTLY 55lbs.

PS40's one day average weight of COMPOST from the cafeteria is.... 84lbs
John in class 2-304 guessed EXACTLY 84lbs

Every day PS40 keeps an average of 84 lbs of trash out of the landfill, saving the city, the state and the planet.

The "How To Compost Video" begins production

The script is simple, the kids talk to the camera explaining how we compost...

and then show how we compost.

Small scale composting in the classroom

We finally got to dig into the small compost bin; rich with vegetable scraps, shredded paper, and some red wigglers.  Everyone wanted to get their hands on a red wiggler.
